The platter incident

The funniest thing happened to me Saturday with Katelyn that I will not let her live down for a while. I hope I can convey it good enough in writing.

Katelyn had a volleyball tournament Saturday. She spent the night with a fellow player so I was up that morning, planning to arrive for the first game at 9:30. My phone rings at 8:50. It's Katie.
She said, "Mom, I am running late and forgot to bring my money and I need a Chick-fil-A platter."
"What?" I said, "Katie, do you want breakfast?"
She said" No, I need a platter."
I, still confused said, "Katie, do you mean you need a plate, like a chicken biscuit?"
She said quickly, "No, Mom, I signed up to being a platter of nuggets for the tournament."
Finally, I am understanding what a platter is, as I literally had no clue that she could mean a party tray of chicken!
Being the FIRST time I had ever heard about this, I asked "You mean, you signed up to bring a whole nugget tray and you are just telling me?"
She said, " Yes, everyone has to bring something!"
What are other people bringing" I asked.
"Chips, dip, coke, I don't know." she told me.
"So, I could have grabbed a bag of chips but you signed me up for a whole nugget tray? When do you need it?"
She said, as if it were not at this point 8:55, "9:00."
"9:00!!!" I am still at home!" I yelled a little too loudly!
I then, quite proud of myself to keep it together said SO calmly, "Katelyn, I will do the very best that I can" Then I hung up.

Screech....bye Jake, bye kids, called Chick-fil-A on my way to Chick-fil-A...amazingly, they said they could have it ready when I got there...got there, it was ready!...screech....off to Boles JH to give the promised nugget tray to her coach!...breathe, breathe..then, laugh that I will be remembering this moment for my whole life.

Thankfully, I have been feeling much better since Friday. I am still eating liquids, but getting them down so much easier. I have even found that I actually enjoy chocolate flavored Boost drinks and won ton soup from Pei Wei. I think we're going to make it:)

Your story reminds me of last year when Mark had a class assignment - all kids were given a state and had to bring a food item from that state (you remember Mark's teacher from your visit here!!!!). Well Mark had California - hmmm you say, what would you make from California? I ended up making a California Cobb salad - shows how creative I am - NOT! cut cut cut, slice slice, arrange. For me it didn't turn out too bad.

The funny thing is my friend Phyllis, who could be Martha Stewart's sister with the things she can put together - her son had Wisconsin - you guessed it, cheese tray.

Things we do for our kids!

Glad to hear you are feeling better. Enjoy the day.

Love, Janette

Isn't it funny, what great lengths we go for our children. Also shows what a great organization Chik Fil A is. They rock!!

Jessica,

I am pretty sure that there would have been something else "dead" (not really!!) besides the chicken nuggets!!! I could have Hugo "count Katelyn down" sometime if you need him to!!!

I know it wouldn't be very nutritious, but could you put a little piece of chocolate in your mouth and just let it melt?!

Love you,

Anita
